The American Indian Art Industry: Artist Summary
The survey results of the American Indian Art Artist Sector provides a good picture of
the American Indian Art artist industry as a whole, at a 95% confidence level with a
margin of error of +/- 15%.
This summary consists of responses from 36 artists.

An Industry of Very Small Businesses
The response indicates that 2013 was a very tough year for the artist, as shown in the
following table.

Artists find that shows are the most productive means of selling their work, followed by
selling via their website and through social media. 33% of artists report selling wholesale
to the trade. 64% do not sell wholesale to the trade.
An Older Industry
33% of the reporting artists have been in the industry for less than 11 years, while 28%
have been selling their work for over 30 years.
A Positive Economic Outlook and Thoughts About Federal Government Support
Reporting artists are a bit more positive about business growth in 2014, with 64%
believing that their business will grow during the year. Yet only 44% of reporting artists
believe that the economy will remain the same as or be even better than in 2013.
With respect to Federal Government support, over 25% of the reporting artists feel that
the Federal Government does not support their business, a considerable shift from the
2013 survey results.
